Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP for short is a non-surgical hair loss treatment for anyone that experiences any form of natural hair loss. It is a safe and non-surgical treatment which is also known as a cosmetic tattoo, hair tattoo or scalp tattoo. Using a micro-needle, thousands of tiny ink dots are deposited into the scalp (like a tattoo). The microdots replicate natural hair follicles at their shortest length which gives the final appearance of a natural-looking shaved head of hair.
It can be used for male pattern baldness, female pattern baldness, alopecia, scar camouflage and to thicken thinning hair. It is suitable for all ethnicities, all genders and any skin complexion and it doesn’t even matter what colour your hair is. It is the most effective and instant solution to hair loss. Scalp Micropigmentation is also good for clients that wear hair systems or hair fibres as it can help to blend in any visible edges, making them look more natural.

SMP Process
For the best Scalp Micropigmentation results, most clients require 3 sessions after the initial consultation and each session usually lasts 3-7 hours depending on the client’s needs. These are spaced 14-21 days apart to allow the pigment to settle and the scalp to heal fully.
Consultation
It`s important to see whether Scalp Micropigmentation is for you, the process starts by either meeting in person at our studio or over a video call. We will assess the scalp, discuss hairlines and answer any queries you may have. This is completely free of charge, and you are under no obligation to proceed.
Session 1
In a typical pigmentation treatment, the first session begins by filling out the relevant medical forms and the technician will map out your treatment. We will shave your hair down with clippers on a zero setting, clean the scalp with antibacterial wipes then we will select a conservative pigment colour to match your existing hair and skin tone. It`s important to start with a lighter shade and not go too dark as we can always add but not take away, this will help achieve the most realistic look possible. This session usually lasts between 3-6 hours depending on the size of the head and how bald the client is.
Session 2
After a two-week period, we will assess the healed result of your first Scalp Micropigmentation session. Then, we will decide whether we need to go lighter or darker with the pigment, this will help give the scalp texture and to create a natural-looking result. Timewise, this session is usually slightly longer than the first, as we add density so you will really notice the difference.
Session 3
This is usually the final treatment of your SMP Cardiff series of sessions and is three weeks after the second session. We’ll add the finishing touches to your scalp and perfect your hairline so you can walk out in confidence with your new look! Now the treatment is complete it is up to you to follow the necessary aftercare guidelines.
Aftercare
To ensure your SMP treatment lasts as long as possible it is essential you follow some aftercare advice. It is important you avoid washing and shaving your scalp for 5 days post-treatment. Avoid getting your scalp wet for 5 days, this includes protecting your scalp from rain, water and sweat. On day 6 after your treatment you are able to rinse your scalp, moisturise, lightly sweat and shave your head. On day 10 you will be able to sweat excessively and resume any exercise activities. You must protect your scalp from the sun in-between sessions and after your treatment using a minimum factor 30 sun cream. If you do have sunburn we will not be able to begin your treatment. You should also avoid swimming, saunas, and steam rooms for 30 days after your final treatment.
